So you're in San Antonio - the 7th largest city in the nation - and you're having trouble finding a job. First, we need to look at this as a positive thing. You are looking to bring a better job to the table and further solidifying your quality of life. This is good that you have that motivation. Now we need to translate that motivation into a good job.

You need to have a plan of action:

What type of job do you want? Figure this out and then research it. Is this job really what you want or is it what you think you want? When collecting data, try going to the place of work if you can. Ask the employees your questions and then ask your for any additional opinions. Most will be happy to oblige your request. Just make sure you're doing this tactfully and not intruding upon the workspace. You can't always go right up to the employees so you can also search job reviews in San Antonio. If there are none, go to a San Antonio Forum and post a question about it. Of course, you can always go to the company home page and see what they say about work culture and guidelines.

Second, polish your resume. You want to highlight your good assets as much as possible. If you lack education, play up your experience. If you're short on experience, bold your education. It works both ways. Be positive about yourself and your abilities. If you don't have an asset, that's ok but tell your future employer you will work to attain it.

Be professional in your interview and carry this through as how you act. You don't want to put on a show, you want to be open and honest about being a positive, enthusiastic person who will work hard for that company. Also, dress and appear professional and conservative unless the job calls for it. 98% of companies out there are not looking for a free spirit they can't tame with pink highlights and a nose ring.

Most importantly, don't give up on getting a job. Most people complain about not getting a job, but they don't apply to many places. Apply, apply, apply. You need to apply to 50 places before you can start complaining. If you show that type of dedication and work ethic, odds are you will find the job you are looking for. Persistence pays off and a can do attitude will have employers gushing over you.

There are many places to work in San Antonio. Granted, economic times are closing up the openings, but you can create one by being a dynamo and beating the competition to nab a better position.
